Trinidad is a colorful, cultural melting pot where honeymooners and vacationers flock to enjoy its beauty. Known for its Carnival, a round-the-clock spectacle and celebration unlike any other in the world, Trinidad is often associated with wild costumes and late night revelry. It is also boasts untouched beaches, some of the best bird watching in the world, and a Calypso music scene that invented the ubiquitous instrument steelpan. The food scene is sophisticated and spicy. Celebrity chefs and street vendors are revered equally, while Indian and Middle Eastern cuisines influence almost every dish. Added to the mix, the capital, Port of Spain, is a business hub for oil and natural gas companies, which drive the robust (for the Caribbean) economy. The creation of a single hotel catering to all aspects of this island nation seemed near impossible, and until 2008 perhaps it was.

The Hyatt Regency Port of Spain changed that. Built to cater to both business visitors needing fast, efficient service and the best technology, it also offers vacationers relaxation and beauty. A tower of glass windows reflecting the Gulf of Paria compliments the sleek modern architecture. Once inside, the crisp architecture melts away into beautiful Cuban art and a staff so friendly and helpful that guests feel instantly at home. Panoramic ocean views enhance the feeling of hospitality. Enormous glass doors open to the waterfront patio, where guests enjoy cocktails or snacks. The Hyatt Regency has made sure that whether guests are looking for fine dining or a quick bite before a conference, there are many delicious food options for all different tastes and needs. The restaurant Waterfront is Hyatt’s fine dining option. Dignitaries from around the world, including President Obama, have enjoyed the creations by Chef Fernando Franco. The stunning chandeliers and elegant decor add to the five star experience and whether guests are on vacation or making deals, the presentation and flavor of the meal stands out. For less fanfare there is a sushi bar in the lounge, a deli and patisserie shop for “to go” needs, and on the fourth floor next to the infinity pool, Pool Grille provides al fresco cuisine.

The Hyatt Regency Trinidad’s 428 luxury rooms range from the Deluxe to the Presidential and Diplomat Suites located on the 22nd floor. The rooms are spacious yet comfortable, with water or mountain views. When entering the rooms, the stand-alone glass shower with a rainfall shower head sits center stage. It is perfectly designed, with a woven bench and fogless mirror inside. Amenities provided spoil guests with an exceptionally large array of products. Body wash, power wash scrub, pillow mist, foot lotion, SPF protection, lip balm and pulse point oil, to name just a few of these well thought-out toiletries. The accommodations have wide desks for working or writing and comfy beds for relaxing. Beds are luxurious, the floors bamboo and all rooms have flat screen TV’s as well as i-home decks for wireless and wired Internet. There is a separate water closet and an isolated vanity next to the large clothes closet with soft yet clear lighting for primping. Security measures, though unnecessary, have been taken and guest’s room card calls the elevators, an individual elevator is then assigned with occupied floor access only.

Whether working or playing, there is always time for pampering. Hyatt Regency’s fourth floor infinity pool has views of the water and stunning nightly sunsets. Ample lounge chairs, tables and cushioned chairs scatter the open space for leisure, and the poolside bartenders are ready to serve their famous LLB (Bitters Lime and Soda). On a clear day, which is often, swimmers can see Venezuela in the distance. Next to the pool is Spa Esencia, a 9,000 square foot space committed to relaxation and rejuvenation. With spa suites complete with changing areas, showers and closets, guests enjoy all the services in one place without having to move within the spa. Spa Esencia’s signature “Golden Coconut Body Scrub” uses organic oils and local fresh coconut. A little part of the island is massaged into the skin for soft exfoliation. For the romantic traveler, the spa has couples rooms with individually designed treatments. Next to the spa is a state of the art fitness center with the latest equipment to burn off the delicious Trini cuisine sampled throughout the island.

Trinidad beckons visitors outdoors with its turquoise water and shark bakes served on the beach, but when returning to the Hyatt Regency Port of Spain, guests still feel the island’s beauty within the property. Many celebrations, weddings and events are held at this spacious hotel for that very reason. There are two ballrooms, the 16,000 square-foot Regency and the 10,000 square-foot Port of Spain. There are translation facilities as well, and the Fifth Summit of the Americas was held there with much success. Something that stands out about this hotel is how intimate it feels while being a grand hotel known for its conference center and many services. The staff make it feel like a large home instead of a temporary vacation spot. They take care of all the details with pride and pleasure. To learn about this diverse country and all the activities available, simply engage in conversation with one of the staff in the hotel. Whether you arrive for business, romance, relaxation or adventure Trinidad has it all and the Hyatt Regency Port of Spain is the place to stay.
